Orchestrate Your Releases

Chapter 7

Why 'Drop and Done' Isn't Enough

Over 100,000 tracks are uploaded to streaming platforms daily. When most artists approach releases, they focus almost exclusively on the quality of their music (as they should) but completely underestimate the challenge of cutting through this unprecedented level of noise. Even exceptional music routinely disappears without a trace in today's oversaturated environment.

The traditional approach goes something like this:

  1. Finish the track
  2. Create basic artwork
  3. Schedule a release date (usually far too soon)
  4. Make a standard announcement
  5. Hope for the best…

Perhaps there's a music video posted simultaneously, and some day-of social posts. But soon after comes the disappointment when streaming numbers crawl along despite your artistic accomplishment.

Industry data shows that 98% of tracks released by independent artists gather fewer than 1,000 streams in their first month. This isn't because they're not good, it's because they lack strategic planning and execution.
