Chapter 4

Brand, Logo & Graphics

While the notes and melodies of your compositions form the soul of your intellectual property, the visual elements, your brand, logo, and graphics, create its recognisable face.

Think beyond mere aesthetics; your artist name, the style of your logo, the colour palettes you gravitate towards, these are not just design choices, they are important assets in your creative arsenal. Just as copyrights protect your songs, trademarks safeguard your unique visual identity, distinguishing you in a crowded landscape and building recognition.

Every artist approaches their branding with differing levels of intensity. Depending on where you are on your musical journey, you may or may not have logos, graphics and a name that has been trademarked. In any event, let’s organise whatever you have on a cloud storage service like Dropbox or Google Drive and then add it to the Brand page in your Musician OS.

Note: If you haven’t given branding much thought I encourage you to download my free Artist DNA template for Figma. It’s a great way to hone in on important elements of your artist project and ensure your visual messaging is consistent with who you are.

Action Items:

  1. Gather Your Brand Assets: Collect all existing digital files related to your brand identity. This includes:
    • Logos (various formats: PNG, JPG, SVG, AI)
    • Album/Single Artwork
    • Promotional Graphics (social media banners, posters)
    • Brand Style Guides (if available, including colour codes, fonts)
    • Artist Photos/Press Shots
  1. Set Up Cloud Storage: Choose a cloud storage service (like Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar) if you haven't already. Create a main folder named something clear like [Your Artist Name] - Brand Assets.
  2. Organise Folders: Inside your main brand assets folder, create subfolders for logical organisation. Suggested folders:
    • Logos
    • Artwork
    • Photos
    • Graphics
    • Style Guide
    • Posters

  3. Upload Your Files: Upload all the gathered assets into the corresponding folders in your cloud storage. Ensure you have high-resolution versions where applicable.
  1. Generate Shareable Links: For key assets (like your main logo variations, primary press photos, or style guide), generate shareable download links from your cloud storage service. Make sure the link permissions are set correctly (e.g., "anyone with the link can view").
  2. Update Musician OS: Navigate to the Brand page within your Musician OS dashboard.
    • Upload key files directly (like your main logo for quick reference).

Paste the shareable cloud storage links for easy access to the full, organized asset library. Add descriptions for clarity (e.g., "Link to all Logo Files," "Download High-Res Press Photos").
