Chapter 4

Tangible Assets

Music Equipment

Let’s start with instruments and equipment. We’re going to organise them in your Gear Inventory so you know the total value locked within them, the current condition of the gear and have a clear breakdown of all the equipment you need to insure or submit for a carnet when heading on tour, performing or working overseas.

Additionally, music equipment follows interesting economics. Unlike consumer electronics, quality gear often appreciates. A vintage synthesiser bought for $500 might sell for $5,000 a decade later. When capital is tight - and it often is for independent artists - your gear inventory becomes a library of assets you can navigate through to sell what is unused.
